Who's Job Is It?

I want to apologize ahead of time today. This post will be difficult for some people, but truth is truth. This is a hard truth to accept at times. Christians today want the power and blessings of the Holy Spirit, but they want others to do their spiritual work.

Each person is responsible for their own walk with Jesus. The day that we stand before the throne of Jesus we will stand alone to answer for what we have done. Our pastors, youth leaders, and spouses will not be with us. In that day we will have to give account of our own actions (or lack of actions) to our Lord and Savior.

Pop Quiz:

Which of the following phrases is in the Bible?

          1. The Lord helps those who help themselves.
          2. Cleanliness is next to godliness.
          3. Spare the rod, spoil the child
          4. This too shall pass.
          5. The Lord works in mysterious way.

And the answer is..... none of them!

That's right. These popular sayings are based on scriptural principles, but are not in scripture. There are many christians that believe one or more of these sayings are from the Bible. James 1:22 says that we are to be doers of the Word, but how can we DO the Word when we do not KNOW what the Word says? That is why we need to take to heart 2 Tim 2:15 to "Study to show yourselves approved." Think about the following scriptures:

"Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You."  Psa 119:11

"My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you.... then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God." Prov 2:1-5

Do we read the Bible for ourselves? Or are we to trust what others tell us is written there? If we are going to build a house, we would want to see the home site for ourselves? We would want to know that the foundation of the house was solid because we are making a large investment in the house. Likewise we need to ensure that the foundation of our faith is strong. That the house of our faith is build on the solid foundation of the pure Word of God! WE MUST READ THE BIBLE. WE MUST KNOW WHAT THE LORD WANTS FOR US TO DO! Each of us is responsible to study the Bible so that we understand God's plans for our life.

I will post the next part of this series. Prayer. God bless you!
